Interwoven Mural
“Working with Inga was a really fun experience. She was open to all of my thoughts and ideas while really pushing forward with her own creativity. She was brilliant around being sensitive to the needs and desires of my project while treating it with the same care and attention she would her own project. Inga was efficient, precise, and budget-conscious while simultaneously being bold and brave to work in new ways.” - Krystal S Lowe
Krystal, a dancer, choreographer, and writer, invited me to transform her beautifully crafted autobiographical poems into window drawings for the Riverfront Theatre. She inspired me to interpret her poetry as landscapes of freedom and creativity. When I first visited the venue, I realized I still had much to learn about creating large-scale artwork on windows, so I spent a lot of time preparing and experimenting. I wanted the clear, delicate surface of the windows to complement the metaphor of hair, representing the intersectional experiences of Black women. Through my illustrations, I aimed to express the fluidity of dance—floating thoughts merging into images of the backdrop view from the windows, birds, rivers, houses, and trees. Seeing how the backdrop scenery merges into the drawing and almost merges into real motion was beautiful. The drawings are less visible from certain angles, intentionally encouraging viewers to engage deeply with Krystal’s words. Inviting them to explore the movement of thought from different perspectives and at various times of day resulted in a dynamic visual experience that mirrors the emotional depth of her poetry.

“Roedd gweithio gyda Inga yn brofiad gwirioneddol gyffrous. Roedd hi’n agored i fy holl syniadau ond ar yr un pryd yn bwrw ymlaen gyda’i chreadigrwydd ei hun. Roedd hi’n wych o ran bod yn sensitif i anghenion a dyheadau fy mhrosiect i gan ei drin gyda’r un gofal a sylw ag y byddai hi’n trin ei phrosiect ei hun. Roedd Inga yn effeithlon, yn fanwl gywir ac yn cadw golwg ar y gyllideb, ond hefyd yn feiddgar ac yn ddigon ddewr i weithio mewn ffyrdd newydd.” - Krystal S Lowe
Gwahoddodd Krystal, sy’n ddawnsiwr, yn goreograffydd ac yn awdur, fi i drawsnewid ei cherddi hunangofiannol hyfryd yn ddarluniau ffenestr ar gyfer Theatr Glan yr Afon. Ysbrydolodd fi i ddehongli ei barddoniaeth fel tirweddau rhyddid a chreadigrwydd. Pan ymwelais â’r safle yn gyntaf, sylweddolais fod gen i lawer i’w ddysgu o hyd am greu gwaith celf ar raddfa fawr ar ffenestri, felly treuliais lawer o amser yn paratoi ac arbrofi. Roeddwn am i arwyneb clir, cain y ffenestri ategu trosiad gwallt, gan gynrychioli profiadau croestoriadol menywod Du. Trwy gyfrwng fy narluniau, fy nod oedd mynegi ystwythder dawns — cymylau o feddyliau’n asio â delweddau’r gefnlen drwy’r ffenestri: adar, afonydd, tai a choed. Roedd gweld sut mae golygfeydd y gefnlen yn asio â’r darlun a bron â chyfuno i droi’n symudiad go iawn yn arbennig o brydferth. Mae’r darluniau’n llai gweladwy o rai onglau, a hynny’n fwriadol annog gwylwyr i adael i eiriau Krystal dreiddio’n ddwfn. Drwy eu gwahodd i archwilio symudiad syniadau o wahanol safbwyntiau ac ar wahanol adegau o’r dydd, cafwyd profiad gweledol deinamig sy’n adlewyrchu dyfnder emosiynol ei barddoniaeth.
